This Friday, 21 September, will see the commencement of construction of Loyola Jesuit Secondary School. At the site in Kasungu there will be a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the material beginnings of the school.

Project Manager Fr. Alojz Podgrasjek, SJ, and Director of Development Fr Peter Henriot, SJ, survey the 'field of dreams' - soon to be a construction site with buildings rising from the red earth into classrooms, hostels, laboratories...

I am delighted to be a part of this challenging and exciting endeavour. Having spent a year teaching in Kasungu, I have joined the LJSS team – particularly to assist with the sometimes daunting task of raising the remaining funds. Your prayers and contributions are, of course, enormously appreciated.

Certainly we are all feeling very encouraged now that the dreams are slowly shaping into reality, to be confirmed at the groundbreaking ceremony on Friday. With speeches from government officials and representatives of the Catholic Church in Malawi, a poem by Malawian poet Q Malewezi, and a drama sketch by local children, the event promises to be a good one.

Pictures of Friday’s ceremony to follow in the next few days!
