Welcome to the blog for Loyola Jesuit Secondary School (LJSS), in Kasungu, Malawi!
This is where you’ll regularly find updates on our progress, background information on LJSS, including articles about the area we’re building in, our hopes, and our plans. Your support, interest, and prayers will help to make these plans a reality!
My name is Pete Henriot, SJ, and I am the Director of Development for LJSS. After 22 years in development and justice work in Zambia, I came to Malawi in April 2011 to help set up this very important educational project. I’ve recently returned from a two-month trip to the United States where I met with many wonderful people – benefactors, students, old friends, organisation directors, etc., for the purpose of fundraising.
Now back in the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ (Malawi’s favoured epithet), I have a head full of new ideas, a heart full of strong desires, and pockets full of hope-filled encouragements.
The good news is that the permission to begin construction of Phase One has come through. We are now working in earnest to finalise details with our architect, and tenders have gone out. In a matter of weeks, we will have our ground-breaking ceremony. The future students are getting excited…!
We still need to raise some immediate funds to provide things like equipment for the kitchen, books for the library, chemical supplies for the laboratories, computers for the IT centre, mattresses for the hostel beds, etc.
In the meantime, watch this space.
